Today brought good news as the rupee climbed by 44 paise to hit 94.92 against the US dollar in early trading, buoyed by interventions from the Reserve Bank of India aimed at quelling speculative foreign exchange activity. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman pointed out the substantial depreciation faced by the rupee over the past 18 months.
