India’s August merchandise trade deficit narrows to $26.49 bn

India’s merchandise trade deficit decreased in August. It reached $26.49 billion, a slight improvement from July’s $27.35 billion. However, this figure exceeded economists’ predictions. Exports slowed after the United States increased tariffs on Indian goods. Total exports fell to $35.10 billion. Imports also declined to $61.59 billion. The overall goods and services trade deficit is estimated at $9.88 billion.
