As of December 2024, 86% of independent director positions in central public sector enterprises (CPSEs) were vacant, up from 59% in October. Efforts are underway to fill these vacancies, especially for 64 listed CPSEs. Independent directors are essential for corporate governance. Options include fast-tracking appointments and extending tenures, with proposals initiated by administrative ministries.
