Whisky deals: India’s drinking habit shapes trade talks

India’s burgeoning alcoholic beverage market, driven by a growing premium segment, is attracting global attention and trade deals. The India-UK FTA slashes import duties on whisky and gin, while similar agreements with the US and Australia are reducing tariffs on bourbon and wine. The FTA halves import duties on UK-produced whisky and gin from 150% to 75% to begin with, followed by a further decrease to 40% within a decade.
