Forex reserves rise on gold, dollar valuation gains despite balance of payments pressure: RBI

India’s foreign exchange reserves saw a nominal rise of USD 19.4 billion in April-December 2025, primarily due to valuation gains from higher gold prices and a weaker dollar. However, excluding these valuation effects, reserves declined by USD 30.8 billion on a balance of payments basis, indicating underlying external flow pressures.
