State-run telco MTNL defaults on loan repayments worth 87 billion rupees

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) has defaulted on loan repayments of 86.59 billion rupees to seven public sector banks, adding to its financial woes. The default includes principal and overdue interest to lenders like Union Bank of India and State Bank of India. Burdened by falling subscribers and mounting losses, MTNL’s total debt has risen to 345.77 billion rupees.
