Central GST officers detected significant tax evasion, totaling approximately Rs 7.08 lakh crore over the past five fiscal years, with Rs 1.79 lakh crore attributed to Input Tax Credit (ITC) fraud. In fiscal year 2024-25 alone, detected GST evasion surpassed Rs 2.23 lakh crore, prompting government measures like digitization and analytics to combat tax evasion and safeguard revenue.
