Consumers will not incur any fees for Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions, while future merchant discount rates will apply selectively—these fees will notably be much lower than those for card transactions. The government is focused on ensuring the long-term sustainability and advancement of UPI technology. This statement comes in response to public concern regarding a recent amendment to the Payment and Settlement Systems Act.
