Sebi has directed depositories to implement a new framework for freezing promoter holdings. This operational framework will be in place by August 1, 2026. The mechanism freezes promoter and promoter group holdings at the ISIN level. Exceptions allow promoters to tender shares in tender offer buybacks. Encumbrances created before the buyback period may be invoked, with the freeze continuing.
