India says no proposal to offer long-term tax relief for domestic equity investors

India’s finance ministry confirmed no proposal exists to scrap equity long-term capital gains tax. Domestic investors will continue paying the 12.5% tax rate on qualifying equity gains. This rate matches that applied to foreign portfolio investors for equity investments. Recent tax rationalization only applies to foreign portfolio investor debt investments. This move aims to attract stable foreign capital and support the rupee.
