The Finance Minister has announced over 20 measures under the themes of Ease of Living and Ease of Doing Business. These include setting up five university townships, building girls’ hostels in every district, making compensation from Motor Accident Tribunal awards tax-free, and allowing taxpayers to avoid TDS on certain financial instruments such as mutual funds and dividends. Other initiatives include exemption of Basic Customs Duty (BCD) on 17 drugs, faster tax settlement for honest taxpayers, and the introduction of an “Orange Economy” policy, among others.
